Outside Temperature Display in CarPlay
I see multiple old posts on this topic that I can no longer respond to, so I’m reposting as a new request, with a temporary workaround for others who might have the same issue.
I have multiple vehicles that use different variations of CarPlay. One in particular uses the vehicle’s entire screen for CarPlay, so in order to display outdoor temperature, I literally have to toggle CarPlay on and off while driving, which is inconvenient and dangerous.
I’ve been following posts on this subject for years but never posted myself. I find it mind boggling that Apple has plenty of useless CarPlay app integrations (like Zoom!) but I can’t get the resident iOS Weather app to just display the current outside temperature as a badge icon on the main CarPlay screen. Let alone more detailed weather info like, an alert that you’re about to drive into a storm or something. I mean that’s kind of useful stuff that should be easy to do. I always figured that there was some reason why Apple has chosen not to integrate any weather app including its own iOS Weather app with CarPlay, but I don’t have the answer. And since no one replied to previous posts on this subject, I’m not going to waste my time requesting a feature that evidently only a handful of people want or need.
What I AM going to do, right now, is offer a workaround for anyone who needs one :)
Weatherology.
It’s a nice, free iOS app that displays the current temperature on its Home Screen in CarPlay as part of the “forecast” tab. And you can set the app to use your current location, so it gives you the temp where you are as opposed to just a set location. Every once in a while I have to fire up the app on the iPhone to get it to update the location in CarPlay, but it is what it is. Not exactly a simple outside temperature badge for the resident iOS Weather app on my iPhone connected to CarPlay, which would be ideal, but the next best thing.
Hope this helps someone else.
