Adding Amex e-gift card to Apple Wallet

I cannot add my AmEx e-giftcard to my apple wallet even though it states that Apple Wallet takes it. Has anyone else had this issue or know how to resolve it?

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 18

It has to be able to be add through the American Express website or account. You may need to create an American Express account to add the card. M

If you need additional assistance, please contact the American Express support team. Apple does not add cards. Only the issuing authority can add the gift card to Apple Wallet app.

You’ll need to talk to American Express Support and request their assistance adding their gift cards. Gift cards are the property of the issuer and Apple cannot add their gift cards. Sorry.

Yes, not all gift card issuer support Apple Wallet. AmEx does support their credit cards for Apple Wallet. However, electronic wallets may allow gift cards to be redeemed for cash. Most issuers of gift cards and prepaid debit cards do not want the funds being converted to cash.

When I try to setup an account with AmEx they tell me my card info does not match. Maybe because this is the 1st time I have ever received an e-giftcard for AmEx and I don't have an AmEx credit card account

i have added cards to my wallet in the past. Are you referring just to giftcards?
