Black screen while screen mirroring live sports to Roku from MacBook Air

When screen mirroring from MacBook Air to Airplay-capable Roku TV through a live streaming sports website, black screen appears on both MacBook and TV during the event. The video/ audio mirror does operate properly during commercials.

When I turn the screen mirror off, the event video returns and live stream to the MacBook air is fine. I've done system restart on Roku, MacBook restart. I've confirmed software updates. Also, the same problem happens when attempting to screen from iPhone 12. I am also able to properly mirror the event from a different website although in a foreign language.

If streaming from that website fails from two different devices but works properly from another website, then most likely it's an issue with the video feed from the problem site. Some have restrictions on how their content can be used which might be the case here, or it may be an incompatibility with that site and Safari. You can try a different web browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, and see if that works. If not, then there may be nothing you can do, though you could ask Roku support if they have any suggestions.

Yep, sounds like content restrictions to me. Not uncommon, particularly with live sports which among other issues often have territory limits.

You did not give any details about what web browser you are using or what Macbook air you are using. We see macOS 15.1 and that is it. Airplay usually requires Safari and an Apple TV. It may be the Roku TV box is now too old to work with MacOS 15.1 and the version of Airplay shipped with.

I would get an Apple TV if you really want to use Airplay.

Thanks for the reply. Same problem in updated Safari and Firefox browsers. Sequoia 15.1.1. Black only during the live event and only when mirroring. Commercials are mirrored as advertised. The TV is about 4 yrs old. The TV updates software on occasion and perfectly mirrors live video and audio from a foreign country's website. So I don't think it's a TV prob, but who knows.
