I am desperate to turn off screen mirroring on my Mac desktop!

I can not find a way to disable iphone mirroring anywhere. I set it up idly thinking it might be useful , found it was not and now I can't get rid of it. If I turn away from my computer for an instant, my screensaver kicks in and then I need to input my password. It is getting annoying!

When I follow existing directions, my screen choices are not the same as what I am instructed to do.

I am running Mac OS 15.1.1 (24B91 with an iphone 16 on iOS 18.2.1

thanks for any help you can give me!

iMac 27″, macOS 15.1

Did you look in the Applications folder. None of the rest of your problems would be possible without it. Or, the problems are completely unrelated. There are other things that require password on lock, like FileVault

And, when I went to apple support, I found a page that said " Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020, NO T-2 chip." I wish I had made a screen shot of it but I didn't.

For iPhone Mirroring to work, you must either have Apple Silicon or a T2 chip. It is not possible to use iPhone Mirroring. If you don’t have Apple Silicon or a T2 chip, you are chasing down the wrong rabbit hole.

When I looked up my computer serial number on the Apple support site, the site told me that my iMac does not have a T2 chip (though I do not know why that matters.)

It matters because you must have a Mac with a T2 chip (Intel) or Apple Silicon. If you don't have either type of Mac, you can't possibly have set up iPhone Mirroring.

There are other reasons why macOS would require a password after lock or screensaver. One of which is FileVault. I think Apple Pay requires it, also.

So, if you don't have a Mac that support iPhone Mirroring, you wouldn't have the app, and your problem is related to something else.

I don't know where you saw that but Apple and Mactracker lists it as having a T2 Security chip.

Just to add, Apple never referred to it as a "T-2" chip.

What does iPhone mirroring have to do with you needing to type your password?!!!!

Your title does not match the question.

Please post a screenshot illustrating what "your choices" and "what you are instructed to do" mean.

Then we will probably understand what the problem actually is, and so be able to help.

It seems to me just a matter of settings in your Mac and nothing to do with iPhone, but then maybe I am misunderstanding. Please clarify/

It disables the ability to not require a password from the lock screen or screensaver (so I've been told).
That's correct. You have to change the settings for the iPhone Mirroring app from "Automatically authenticate" to "Ask every time".

Well, yes, but if there isn’t an app (yeah, don’t believe that either) then there is no way it is the cause the problem. Still waiting for “the rest of the story.“

We may never know. 🤔
One consideration is the OP is in a region that does not have iPhone Mirroring, so no app, and the password requirement is caused by something else.

I am in a region where iPhone Mirroring does not work. I have the application. All it does when I try to start it is shown below. So if this is the situation for the OP, he can't have enabled iPhone mirroring to begin with...

Hi, thanks for your question and for the attention you have given this.

because I had set up iPhone mirroring, i find that if I stop working for any length of time my computer sleeps and I have to re-enter my password in order to proceed. When I tried to fix this setting, I found that it was a function of iPhone mirroring.

again thanks for your thoughtful attempts to help.

FWIW, you cannot set up iPhone Mirroring unless you have a Mac that supports it AND you have the iPhone Mirroring app on your Mac.
