Mac Mini Screen Mirroring witha Roku 4K

I have a new Mac Mini M4 with a BenQ monitor connected to a a wifi network and a Samsung TV with a Roku Express 4K designated as “Living Room” and a LG TV with a Roku Express 4K designated as “Kitchen” that I cannot get to either stream nor mirror monitor.

Both Roku units have  Airplay turned on with Require Code First Time only and connected to the same wifi as my Mac Mini.

When I open the Screen Mirroring in the Control Center on my Mac both Roku units are shown.

With either TV Roku unit on and I select that particular Roku location, the selected Roku label begins to spin, then the TV goes blank and my Mac Mini Screen locks on the background for a few seconds until the TV comes back to the screen it was on and the MacMini screen comes back with a message “Could not connect to”Roku Express 4K Living Room”” and an OK button.

Both Roku units and TVs respond the same way.

Any help will be appreciated

Most suggestions online will suggest the following (and I agree):

  • Reboot your gateway/WiFi router (then wait until it is available agian)
  • Reboot your Roku (pull the power cable, wait 20 seconds, power it back on)
  • Reboot the Mac or iPhone
  • Try again.

I would suggest also checking:

  • Temporarily try it without the passcode option
  • Try it from another device (such as an iPhone)
  • Try a different type of content
  • If you have any 3rd party security, firewall, or antivirus software on your Mac, uninstall it all
  • If you have access to your router/gateway, ensure that it supports and has Bonjour (zero-configuration networking) enabled
  • If you have configured your network to segregate traffic in any way (i.e. VLANs for trusted vs. guest vs IoT), then you will either need both the Roku and Mac to be on the same VLAN, or you will need to research how to forward Bonjour traffic.
