Apple Watch Ultra Series 1 no voice for activity notifications

Apple watch ultra (1st gen) stopped providing audio voice to activitiy notifications. I use the watch for exercise and it used to provide voice information such as "10 minutes, 20 minutes, mile split time, etc. I still get a tone with the information but no voice. I noticed the issue shortly after the last watch update, but that may be coincidental. All settings are where they belong (as far as I know). Anyone else run into this and were you able to resolve it?
