Microsoft 365 from Windows to Mac. Can it be done?

How do I transfer my Microsoft 365 subscription from a Windows laptop to my new MacBook Pro? I'm told downloading the actual program for Mac is better than using the App Store applications.

Windows, Windows 10 (19045)

Since you have an MS 365 subscription on a Windows laptop you must have obtained your subscription from MS. (The App Store versions are Mac only.)

There is no actual 'transfer' of an MS 365 subscription from one device to another. What you do is install MS 365 on your Mac and then log in (aka activate) it on your Mac. If you obtained your subscription from MS, download the installer from Microsoft, not the App Store (they are different versions with different licenses).

If you have a Personal subscription you can install & use MS 365 on up to 5 devices (pcs, Mac, phone, tablet) that you own and personally use. If you own & use both your Windows laptop and your new MacBook Pro you can install & use MS 365 on both.

To 'remove' MS 365 from a computer (aka your Windows laptop), sign out of MS on the Windows laptop and then remove the MS 365 programs.

For note...

MS Office 365:

Just how many devices do your have? MS Office 365 sounds great, for the price. But it is a subscription that only lasts you one year. The major benefit of it is Cloud Storage and installing it on multiple devices. If you only have one device, then you should get the one MS Office version that will stay installed until you decide to uninstall it.

Microsoft – Compare Microsoft 365 with Office

Microsoft also reserves Outlook, "ongoing technical support", and a couple of other things for the "subscription" (rental) product. With Office Home & Business 2024 you get "access to support resources."

Microsoft Support – What's the difference between Microsoft 365 and Office 2021?

Here they say that "Ongoing support is available via Call Back and Chat" for those with subscriptions – but that "Chat is available (Call Back for activation only.)" for those who buy Office 2021. (Note: The current one-time-purchase version is Office 2024.)
