Mac OS finder toolbar: faulty folder navigation

For one particular user, after adding a folder to the Mac OS Finder toolbar, clicking on the folder only navigates to the folder if the view is not in column view. If the view is in column view, it just goes to the home folder.

Even if in list view and the toolbar icon used to navigate to a folder, as soon as the view is changed to column, the Finder goes back to the home directory.

This only happens for one user, other logins don't have the same issue. Rebooting didn't fix the problem.

Is there a preference file that may have been corrupted somewhere? I'm using Mac OS 14.6.1.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.6

There is a chance that the Finder preferences may have become corrupted.

Try this:

In Finder, press Command-Shift-G and paste

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Drag the file out of the folder, and to the trash

press command-option-escape, select Finder, and click Relaunch
