Receiving texts from a contact that links to an email that doesn't exist

Received a 16 pro last week. Running 18.2

When I receive texts from my spouse on 18.2.1 imessage shows as

Text message from (her cell #) and email. The email is not hers. It's not even a real domain.

I've deleted her contact and she sent me a contact card but it's still doing it.

She doesn't have her apple ID registered to send messages.

Any suggestions are appreciated

  1. From the Messages screen, tap one of the messages from her
  2. At the top, tap the round icon for her
  3. Tap "info"
  4. Inspect the entire contact that it is matching to her. That incorrect email must be hiding there somewhere. If you don't see it when viewing her contact, try tapping Edit and looking in that mode as well.

It's possible that you have multiple sources (accounts) for contact on your iPhone and the one with the incorrect information being matched is not the one that you are looking at. For example, you may have an iCloud account and also a Gmail account, both with Contacts.
