Cochlear Implant - MacBook Air M2 - Accessibility

My friend tested her Nucleus (Cochlear) on my MacBook. So I had to remove my Sonnet 2 (MED-EL) before doing that.

When she was done, I removed her Nucleus and tried to add my Sonnet 2. The MacBook showed in Accessibility that it found Sonnet2 connected to my iPhone, but it didn't connect. I clicked "Forget" and tried to connect again. Unfortunately, the MacBook can no longer find my Sonnet.

I deleted all the files and reinstalled the system.

It didn't help.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Pls help 😔

Am no expert in this area, yet your post to the Community deserves some response.

If you do not receive any expert replies ... you may find something below is helpful.

Else: You may want to consult your hearing specialist.

✽ Discovered there seems to be support available online for Sonnet 2 (MED-EL)

Eg: You could check if there is a firmware or app udate available, and / or seek / search for pairing advice.

Have added a few possibilities below,. You are likely more of an expert than I am ... so you may want to browse through all suggestions first, and see whether one of them stands out as a good next step to try.

✽ Apple Support's List of Made for iPhone hearing devices. has only "AudioStream" listed under MED-EL

Mac compatible hearing devices have an asterisk (*) after their entry, and I see no MED_EL hearing devices with *

  2. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Bluetooth in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  3. Hold the pointer over the device in the list, then click Connect.
  4. If asked, click Accept (or enter a series of numbers, then press Enter).

You can also connect a Bluetooth device to your Mac by clicking in Control Centre and selecting the device."

Also from above article

✽ "Select a Bluetooth audio device as your computer’s input or output device

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Sound in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. If your device is meant for sound output (for example, headphones), click Output.

SOLUTION FOUND

I've exhausted all of the solutions I could think of:

  • Restarted laptop
  • Restarted Audiostream
  • Turned off Bluetooth on all devices except for the laptop
  • Unpaired this CI
  • Forget the CI
  • Terminal command for Bluetooth
    • sudo pkill bluetoothd
    • sudo pkill blued
  • Cleared the Bluetooth cache by dragging the file to the trash

But as a tech person, a new idea came to me, and it worked!

SOLUTION (ONLY IF YOU HAVE ATTEMPTED THE "UNPAIR/FORGET THE DEVICE" OPTION)

  1. Open one of your devices that are connected to your CI
  2. Go to AudioKey app
  3. Go to Connectivity > Audiostream > Reset
  4. Go to your device with a Bluetooth problem and open Audiokey there
  5. Go to Connectivity > Audiostream > Configure
  6. Then you're all good to go!

No need to go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices (MFi) anymore. It will be connected automatically. I absolutely have no idea why this method worked, but I'm glad I could connect it. Honestly, it drove me nuts for more than a day!

Anyway, I hope this solution helps another person like us who comes across a similar issue. Good luck!

Same here! It was great til the app update, which I truly regretted. It was connected to all of my devices (except for Macbook Pro) til last night. It took me an hour to reconnect to them. But when I opened my Macbook Pro this morning, I realized I didn't bother to check on the laptop, which was not connected to my CI. I've been trying to reconnect it back to the laptop for the WHOLE DAY, and yet it refused. I tried to make my laptop forget/unpair this CI, and it didn't work either. There were a few occasions when it detected "more than one Audiostream" when I only used ONE CI. This app update is ridiculous! I feel that they should have at least tested it with a group of cochlear implantees to assure that there are no connectivity issues. How disappointing! Now, I have to go back to using headphones.
