MacBook Pro M1 screen turns black

Hey all,

I'm experiencing an issue where the internal display turns black a few seconds to a couple of minutes after I turn it on. More details:

  • the screen turns black but not completely off - I can faintly see the outlines of the windows or cursor
  • the screen temporarily returns to normal for a bit if I close and reopen the lid but goes black again shortly after
  • when connected to an external monitor, the external display works just fine while the internal one is black

I've tried to:

  • boot in safe mode,
  • reseted the display preferences by deleting the 2 com.apple.windowserver files
  • check for updates (I'm on 14.0)
  • ran the lid test by moving the display back and forth - no immediate flickering or response

Please did anyone experience the same issue and how did you fix it?

Sounds like a hardware issue with the Display assembly, Display cable
