Assistance Required for Tracking Lost iPhone 13

I am writing to seek your immediate assistance regarding the loss of my iPhone 13, which occurred on January 12, 2025. Despite my efforts to track the device using the "Find My" feature, I am facing difficulties in locating it.

Initially, after the theft, the location of my iPhone 13 was being updated intermittently for about an hour, with updates occurring every 2-3 minutes. However, after this period, the location updates ceased entirely.

I am currently using an iPad with the same Apple ID, but unfortunately, the "Find My" app is no longer showing any updated location for my iPhone 13. This has left me unable to track the device effectively.

I kindly request your guidance on any additional steps I can take to locate my lost iPhone. Your prompt assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

iPhone 13, iOS 18

With a stolen device it is very likely the thieves have taken it to a place where it cannot connect to the outside. There is nothing you or Apple can do about that.

Read this support article about what to do if a iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen -->

Find your lost iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

- Note that if you remotely erase your device as instructed in this article, if you subsequently remove it from your account as in this article --> Check your Apple Account device list to find where you’re signed in - Apple Support , then according to this article --> How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support you remove activation lock from the device. Do not remove it from your account. If you do then a finder or thief will have an unlocked device that can be used by another person.

If Find My is offline or not working, read this Apple Support article to get help; e.g., when you don't see your device listed, or you see an unexpected device or an alert that says your device is offline. --> If Find My is offline or not working - Apple Support

"Use the Find My app to locate a missing device or item" - Use Find My to locate your lost Apple device or AirTag - Apple Support

- "Don't see your device? You might not have Find My [device] turned on. If your device is powered off, the battery has run out, or more than 24 hours has passed since its last location was sent to Apple, you also can't see your device's location." Also if a thief has taken it and placed it somewhere where it cannot get a radio signal out to a bluetooth, wifi, or cellular service. There is nothing Apple could do to prevent that.

As stated, It's likely that the thieves have tampered with your iPhone so it cannot transmit it's location. Also the odds of your stolen iPhone being recovered are slim to none.

You will probably receive some messages claiming to be from Apple or Apple Support stating that your iPhone has been located or found. Do not interact with those messages, they are a scam. The thieves are trying to get you to remove Find My off your iPhone, making it fully usable to them.

I would advise you to turn on Lost Mode, report the iPhone stolen to your carrier and local law enforcement. Also if your iPhone does happen to show up in Find My, do not try to retrieve it. This can put your safety at risk, instead tell local law enforcement.

If you are seeing an "Offline" message when you try to track the stolen phone......there are at least one and possibly more reasons why this may be occurring:

  • The battery has run down
  • The phone was powered off
  • The phone does not have an Internet connection where it is located
  • The thieves have placed the phone in a special small bag that will not allow the phone to either send or receive a signal

Unfortunately, there is not really anything that you can do about this except keep checking a few times each day to see if the status of the phone might have changed.

Good luck
