Received suspicious text message, is this phishing?

I do most texting on my iPhone. I also have a MacBook Air, which can participate. Today I found a message, supposedly from Apple Support, that was not on my iPhone. I do not use Apple Pay, but the message said that a payment had been requested from my Apple Pay account, but because it was suspicious, I was asked to call a certain 855 number. Did my iPhone block it because it is phishing? Should I not call that number?
