About Face ID technology, is there any blinking light when using it?

I have a debate with my internet friend about Face ID. He said there is a purple light blinking on iPhone but I can’t see the light on my iPhone 13 Pro.

As I know, Face ID uses infrared so human can’t see the light. Which one is correct?

All I can tell you is that I've never seen any visible blinking light for Face ID on any of my devices. If he's seeing one on his iPhone, I can only guess that it's due to a screen cover refracting and converting the infrared somehow, or something's amiss with the hardware.
