Finder not opening after Sequoia 15.2 update

I have deleted large files, I have shut down, run in safe mode, reinstalled Sequoia...all of the things multiple times. When I click on Finder in the dock it pops up on the screen and disappears before I can click on any thing. I have been working on this for 2 days and i am all out of options. Please help!

If your Finder isn't opening after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.2, it's likely due to a corrupted Spotlight index, conflicting third-party extensions, or potential issues with the update itself; try restarting your Mac in Safe Mode to isolate the problem, then rebuild the Spotlight index using the "mdutil" command in Terminal; if that doesn't work, check for conflicting applications or extensions and consider contacting Apple Support for further assistance.

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot:

  • Restart in Safe Mode:
  • Hold down the Shift key while restarting your Mac to boot into Safe Mode, which disables third-party login items and extensions. If Finder opens normally in Safe Mode, investigate any recently installed applications or extensions that might be interfering.
  • Rebuild Spotlight Index:
    • Open Terminal.
    • Type sudo mdutil -E / and press Enter.
    • Enter your administrator password when prompted.
    • This command will rebuild the Spotlight index for your entire system.
  • Check for conflicting applications:
    • Open Activity Monitor to see if any applications are using excessive resources.
    • Review your recently installed applications and check for potential conflicts with Finder.
  • Check for updates:
    • Ensure you have installed the latest macOS updates.
    • Update any third-party applications that might interact with Finder.
  • Contact Apple Support:
    • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, reach out to Apple Support for further assistance.

I am on a MacBook Pro 13-inch, M1, 2020 and after updating to Sequoia 15.2 I would click on my finder app to try and access my files and it would abruptly close itself for no reason try'd booting into safe mode and using the first aid to try and repair any disk corruption and that didn't work. Tried your method and my finder is working like it was before thanks so much. Anyone experiencing this should try this first. Is there a reason why deleting this works?
