laptop screen failure (MacBook Pro 2018) purchased brand new in 2020

What would cause such an expensive laptop's screen to fail? By failure I mean there are lines across the screen and weird colors on photos and videos. I brought it to an apple repair store and was told $850 to mail it in and then there may be additional charges. This computer was used very little for the first 2 years that I had it because I used my work computer a lot.

This was the first Mac I’ve purchased and at this point I will not buy another. Very disappointed.

I always recommend the AppleCare+ extended warranty. Without that you are hosed.

I would not spend any money on a 2018, the repair work is only warrantied for 90-days.

Complex Electro-mechanical devices fail at random, arbitrary, and capricious times.

The most frequent reason for most failures is 'just because'.

Your specific failure is most likely caused by an advanced scientific principle called ...

... 'bad luck'.

If you want a really substantial lesson how this this works (or more precisely how this stops working) own an older used automobile.
