why my iMac software isn't updating?
I want to update my late 2014 27 inch iMac. When I click on Software Update, the "Checking for updates" spinning thing never stops and goes no for days. How do I get past this?

You could try to do it from the command line
sudo softwareupdate -ia
then enter your password when prompted.
That will run the software update tool and automatically find, download and install (-i) all available (-a) updates.
FYI, Big Sur is the end of the line for that iMac.
