Creating automatically running automations on Mac
I'm trying to make an automatically running automation on my Mac. I know you can do this on iPadOS and iOS in the shortcuts app, but I see no such "Automations" tab on the Mac. To be clear, I want certain actions to run in the background, or even with confirmation if that's the only way to do it, triggered by the event of my choice. This is with the Mac fully powered on and signed in. Nothing too crazy, it's really about the simplest use case you could think of for an automation. I simply want to avoid any sort of hacky workaround; I'm looking for a real "vanilla" solution.
To reiterate, in both the Automator and Shortcuts apps, I have failed to find any way to create an automatically running automation. I know you can run commands and actions with the press of a button, as a widget, on the dock, or in the menu bar in Shortcuts. Automator allows you to run them when something is placed in a folder, when a certain calendar event is present, a certain phrase is spoken using dictation, with the addition of a file into an application, etc etc. Unfortunately, options for the trigger that will cause the automation to run, don't expand much further than that. I would be unfortunately surprised to find that automations similar to the ones easily found in iPadOS and iOS, don't exist in MacOS. What have you guys found? Did I miss something?
