I'm not able to use Chapter Marker thumbnail image in Final Cut Pro 10.8.1. The pin appears but doesn't change anything in the viewer when I slide it. I'm running Sonoma 14.7. The Chapter Markers work fine but doesn’t allow me to select what my thumbnail is. I’m really new at this so I’m trying to find my way in the dark

You know what else shows that I’m a beginner? The part of my first post that stated that I was really new to this and trying to find my way in the dark. As far as running other apps, the first one being Finder that is always on, they had NO effect on dragging the pin as they were not running when I was trying to set the thumbnails. As I also said, I could get the Chapter to work but couldn’t get an image to appear and change in the viewer as my thumbnail until I turned on the Skimming option. My apologies to the fine folks at Apple for suggesting they make their instructions a little clearer and thank you for the helpful discussion.

As Luis said, there's nothing wrong with the chapter feature. I think the cause is that you are not familiar with the basic operations of FCP. For example, you are running a lot of other apps while FCP is running, you are opening a smart collection instead of an event with a project, and you are not cleaning out the trash. These things also show that you are a beginner.
Many problems will continue to occur, but most of them are due to lack of knowledge. Before complaining to Apple, you should study FCP more and improve your own performance.
It all seems to be correct. That orange circular widget indicates the frame from which the chapter marker thumbnail is created.
The playhead is now in a different frame.
The thumbnail in question is only relevant when playing back the exported movie and then still it depends on the format you export and what the playback program supports.
Thank you for your help. I finally figured out that the problem was that I needed the Skimming option under View menu turned on because the viewer would never change to set the frame I wanted when I moved the pin. Apple needs to clarify their instructions for this and add you need Skimmer turned on.
