Siri: Say something like: “Turn up the volume” or “Turn down the volume.” Learn how to use Siri.
The Ringer Volume and Alert Volume on an iPhone cannot be adjusted independently—they share the same volume control. However, the perceived loudness of alerts can vary depending on the tone you select. This variation is due to differences in the pitch and frequency of the tones. Higher-pitched tones might sound louder or more piercing, while lower-pitched tones can seem softer or less prominent. As a result, you may feel that the volume levels differ for different tones, but in reality, the actual volume output remains the same; it’s the tonal characteristics that create this perception.
Limit the speaker volume
With iOS 18.2 or later, you can limit the maximum volume of sound that plays through your iPhone’s built-in speaker.
- Go to Settings
> Sounds & Haptics > Volume Limit. - Turn on Limit Maximum Volume, then drag the slider to specify the maximum volume.
Note: If you set up Screen Time for a family member, you can prevent them from changing the Speaker Volume Limit level. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Speaker Volume Limit, then select Don’t Allow.
