About availability of TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps in the United States

TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps are no longer available in the United States, and visitors to the United States may have limited access to features.

Apple is obliged to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates. Pursuant to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries — including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and others — will no longer be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the United States starting January 19, 2025.

The following are some of the apps developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries that are affected:

TikTok

TikTok Studio

TikTok Shop Seller Center

CapCut

Lemon 8

Hypic

Lark - Team Collaboration

Lark - Rooms Display

Lark Rooms Controller

Gauth: AI Study Companion

MARVEL SNAP

If you live in the United States

If you already have these apps installed on your device, they will remain on your device. But they can't be redownloaded if deleted or restored if you move to a new device. In-App-Käufe und neue Abonnements sind nicht mehr möglich.

Users in the United States won't receive updates for these apps, which could potentially impact performance, security, and compatibility with future versions of iOS and iPadOS, and some app functions might become limited or stop working since the app can't receive updates.

If you're visiting the United States

ByteDance's apps remain available for download in all other countries and regions where they are available.

Users visiting from outside the United States with their Apple Account set to a country or region that is not the United States are unable to download, update or make in-app purchases and new subscriptions inside ByteDance Ltd. apps while within the land or maritime borders of the United States.

After leaving the United States, you'll have access to all functionality.

I deleted TikTok after it was banned and on the Apple Store it says it’s unable to connect in this region and a lot of other people deleted it after it was banned and we really want it back and nobody knew if you deleted it you couldn’t get it back so that’s not fair to us who deleted it And we didn’t know we couldn’t get it back after it was deleted on the Apple Store,so that’s not fair

You would have known if you read the news as the TikTok ban situation was all over it. We knew it was coming.

TikTok automatically deleted off my phone. I did not delete it and now I can’t get it back.

You must have turned on Optimized Storage, because it is not turned on by default. The purpose of using Optimized Storage is to offload apps when you are running out of storage space or for apps that are used infrequently. Once the app is offloaded, it requires downloading again from the App Store, and obviously that will not happen when the app is no longer available. You are now left with only being able to access the web version of TikTok and you can do that with Safari.

If you do not want apps to automatically be offloaded when you run out of storage space, then turn off Optimized Storage.

It was not Apple that passed the law, that would be your Congressional Representatives. Of course, Apple must follow the law, so now it is up to TikTok to see if they decide to divest to a US company as the law requires. So far, that has not happened and the days are numbered. In the meantime you can access TikTok on the web using Safari.
