Apple mail search solution - synch mails

Like many here, my Apple mail search stopped working after an OS update. For a year I tried work-arounds 9w Google) or various solutions. None worked.

My mails indicated 'synching in progress'. but it never finished.

I finally got the synching to work:

I plugged in the mac.

I turned off any sleep mode or screensaver + often went to move the mouse for a quick check + jiggle, then left it overnight.

After about 30 hours, synching was complete + my search has been working since (about 2 months).
