Photobooth video recording issue on updated Mac

When I try to record a video it will count down from 3 and appear to be recording but when I stop recording and try to vie the video it appears to be at 0:00 and nothing has recorded. I've had this issue for months so I updated my laptop. Previously when the count down from 3 happened the screen would appear to be paused indicating it was not recording. Since updating to the latest software it appears to be recording until I check the playback, which there is none. What can I do to fix this?

It sounds like Photo Booth isn’t recording properly on your Mac. Try these steps:

  1. Restart Photo Booth:
    • Close and reopen the Photo Booth app to see if that fixes the issue.
  1. Check Storage Space:
    • Make sure you have enough storage on your Mac. If storage is full, it can prevent videos from saving properly. Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac > Storage to check.
  1. Reset Photo Booth Preferences:
    • You can try resetting Photo Booth’s preferences. Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete the file named com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist. Then, reopen Photo Booth and test again.
  1. Update macOS:
    • Make sure your macOS is up to date (go to System Preferences > Software Update) in case there’s a newer fix for this.
  1. Test with Another User Account:
    • Try creating a new user account on your Mac and test Photo Booth there. This can help rule out any account-specific issues.
  1. Reinstall Photo Booth:
    • If none of the above works, you can try reinstalling Photo Booth by reinstalling macOS via the recovery mode.

Let me know if that helps! Hopefully, you can get back to recording soon.
