“cc” is being displayed in the top left corner of my iPhone’s home page. What does this mean?

Just a guess, but take a look at the actual photo you are using for your wallpaper and see if the cc is included in the image.
My provider is Consumer Cellular, not Cricket Communications.

OK. Then CC would stand for Consumer Cellular in your case.

Yes, if those are your carrier’s initials.
Carriers do have access to custom status icons and symbols at the top of the screen on iPhones.
