Converting Apple TV HD Movies to iPod Video/Classic on MacBook Pro

Has anyone with a modern Mac been able to convert movies bought on Apple TV and convert it to a resolution compatible with a iPod Video or Classic? I've been trying everything I can think of but to no prevail...

I have a MacBook Pro M4 and a iPod Video 5.5 btw

I love my iPod but would love some video content on it!!!

This model has a low res 320×240px (4:3) screen [not exactly cinematic]. It can handle

  • H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
  • H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
  • MPEG-4 video (part 2), up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

It is not specified to handle iTunes Store movies or TV shows, nor downloadable subscription content. Even most SD media (the lowest resolution available) from the Store, are already wider than 640px: 720px.

And users can’t re-encode such Apple media, due to DRM.

You’ll have to find a non-DRM video and convert that to the specifications that this device can handle.
