Upgrade Catalina to Sequoia

Recent purchase of iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5 inch, 2019) from Amazon Renewed (new computer, no previous users), which is macOS Catalina (Version ). All apps I regularly use on my current iMac (21.5 inch, late 2009, updated regularly thru macOS Sierra (Version 10.12.6) and no longer supporting further updates) are on the renewed iMac, except Microsoft Office.

When I tried to the buy the latest Microsoft Office software, a message appeared that indicated the Catalina upgrade was no longer supportable and I would have to upgrade the macOS. A number of upgrades were listed, including the latest macOS Sequoia.

My main question: Will I be able to upgrade directly from Catalina to Sequoia, or will I have to upgrade through each upgrade separately, building upon each one after the other in sequential order?

Obviously, I'm not a tech person, just a retired septuagenarian who never had a single problem over 16 years with my iMac, and I am not going to be around long enough to eke out another 16 years with a brand new desktop. I plan on using my Time Machine external drive to selectively transfer files from the old iMac to the new one, which shouldn't be a problem (fingers crossed) once I can transfer Word documents.

Any kind-hearted members who can answer my question with advice? Thank you.

iMac, macOS 10.12
