Duplicate iPhone group chats with RCS vs. SMS issue

I'm in a 7 person group chat, with a mix of iPhones and androids. Never had a problem until December ( maybe around the time of an IOS update), and suddenly I have 2 identical group chats, almost like one of the groups started over, but it's all the same people, no one has a new number. Now most of the texts come through on the newer chat, but sometimes a single person will show up on the old chat, that person has an iPhone as well . If I try using the old chat then the text sends in both places. Is there a way to combine these 2 chats into one? My boyfriend has an android he said this isn't happening for him, and thinks it could be and RCS vs. SMS problem.

This is happening for me too. It's become really annoying. I've double checked and I DO have RCS enabled, under Message settings and also when I look at the Carrier settings. My group of friends have been at this for months. One guys got an entirely new phone and reconfirmed with his carrier that RCS is working properly. The odd part is that I have a different iPhone/android group chat that has worked fine all along. It's just this other one that keeps forking into duplicate threads, or it brings back old threads, old thread names or group images, even after people have deleted them.

This has to be related to Apple's implementation of RCS. Everything was fine before then.

We've verified that ALL the group chat members have RCS enabled, and, we've all gone through in the past and tried to delete old threads, but they keep coming back.
