Custom name option missing for some contacts on iPhone 12

I can give custom names to my contacts, but for a few contacts, I don’t get the option. How can I give custom names to those contacts please advise.

Do you mean custom labels for the phone numbers? If so, whether or not you have that option depends on what type of account the contacts are associated with. If you have a work account on your phone, it may not allow you to edit the labels.
