Cannot find saved contact by searching for numbers

I saved a contact on my phone yesterday, however when I tried to search him using parts of the mobile number or then later testing his whole phone number, the contact still didnt show up. What I can see is that the contact was saved using an area code +61 whereas all the other contacts that came up in searches didnt have the area code.
