Mail is slow after upgrading to iOS 18.2.1

I have a 15 Pro Max that was upgraded to iOS 18.2.1. I do not have Apple Intelligence enabled, I have disabled “Categories”, and disabled “delay sending”.

I have not upgraded my iPad Pro 12.9” (6th gen) so it’s still on iPadOS 18.1.1. It does not have this delay.

The delay causes my iPhone to not make mail available for 3-5 minutes and I almost never get my iCloud+ Custom Domain mail on my iPhone unless I load it on another device first.

I have removed accounts, added accounts, reboot the phone, and disabled every “smart” or “AI” feature possible. I strongly believe that even with these settings off that the Mail app is still sorting and categorizing my mail which is causing this delay.

How do I fix this serious delay?

How do I verify that categorizing is actually off and not causing this problem?

Ok. I fixed it on my end…

as everyone might have noticed, the mail view is different ‘category view’. You might want to revert to List view

ehat is also took was a deletion of the mail app, redownload and then also to enable the mail accounts in iCloud as well

after that, all mail activity is current

Is there a way to downgrade the iOS? This is a terrible problem. My iPhone is worthless for reading email since upgrading. Very disappointing and frustrating. What type of testing do they do that they didn’t see this before releasing it?

Just discovered that Mail on iOS 18.2.1 is no longer downloading email from Yahoo as an additional problem.

It does download email from Gmail but is very very slow. Cannot rely on it for anything that is time sensitive.

I had an iPhone 14+ at 18.3, still no issues... then I switched to an iPhone 16+ and BOOM... I have the issues listed.

Since he has already tried what I would have tried to fix it and it didn't work, I am tempted to believe I can't fix it the same way either. This is fundamental stuff, Apple... what the heck did you do?

I have three mail accounts and none of them get email promptly... I have email in there from three days ago, but nothing recent. My Mac show it though.

I tried your suggestion to reinstall the Mail app but it didn’t help me. Thank you though.

My accounts were all set to List View already. (Disable Categories)
