apple pencil 1 won't charge

I have a 1st gen apple pencil that I have not used in several years. Now it won't charge.

Do they lose the ability to charge after non-use?

Yes, lithium batteries, that are used in the Apple Pencils (and many other devices) will lose their ability to be charged if left uncharged for extended periods of time. Years, in this case, would be a good example.

AFAIK, there is no means to replace this battery, and if you wish to use a Pencil going forward, you will need to get a replacement ... and be sure to periodically charge it to prevent this situation.
