Using a 21.5" 2011 iMac as a monitor for a 14" MacBook Pro M3

I want to use the monitor of an iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011 with High Sierra OS) for a Macbook Pro M3 14in, I connected them with a HDMI cable with an adapter for the iMac but it does not recognize it, anyone has experience with this that can help me?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.4

Sorry, my friend. That is not possible with the newest Macs.

Target display mode for Macs has been dead for about a decade now.

Your M3 Mac is too new to take advantage of that old feature.

You might consider a third-party solution - Luna Display or Duet Display - though the performance of those options is limited. They are only suited for uses where there will be limited motion and where lag time is not an issue, such as for application tool palettes or maybe stock tickers and such.
