Passcode requirement to power-off iphone

I asked AI to tell me the feature available in IOS for power off protection and even AI is sharing the wrong steps

"iPhones running iOS 17 and later have a built-in feature that requires a passcode to turn off the device Phones running iOS 17 and later have a built-in feature that requires a passcode to turn off the device" >> Where is this feature in IOS?

To enable the feature that requires a passcode to turn off your iPhone in iOS 17, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings: Tap on the gear icon on your home screen to open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode: Depending on your device, select the appropriate option.
  3. Enter Your Current Passcode: You'll be prompted to enter your current passcode.
  4. Enable Passcode Requirement: Look for the option to require a passcode to turn off your iPhone and toggle it on.

Above Solution is no more available in IOS 18 onwards , and this surely a big security issue from vulnerability prospective

Don't you think this feature can save iPhone being getting stolen ?

Absolutely no.

Even if a code were required to power off a phone that a thief has stolen, any iPhone thief knows how to work around the code requirement in about 10 seconds to prevent the phone from ever being tracked by the iPhone owner.

So, requiring a code to power off the phone would be completely useless as far as a thief would be concerned.

If you do not understand how a thief....or anyone else for that matter.....can do this, post back and we will explain.

In addition.....a code requirement would be an absolute nightmare for technicians if service were required on a phone and the owner could not remember the power off code. Or, there were a software problem on the phone that would not allow the power off code to be implemented.

No. Requiring a passcode won't in any way prevent a phone from being stolen. And once an iPhone is stolen, whoever has stolen it will need the passcode to open it, which they won't have or know. People have suggested this over the years and it really wouldn't help or honestly be a good idea.
