Am no expert in this area, and your found iPhone would still be in lost mode:

Apple Support have an article online that should help with the situation:

Just follow the steps to see what to do: If you can't connect or sign in to iCloud - Apple Support

If you still need help after trying the steps in the article above:

See if the new password works ok with your Apple Account online: Log-in: https://appleid.apple.com/

____

If so, check all your details are up-to-date there.

(Allow 24 hours for any changes to update everywhere they are in use, including iCloud).

If you have difficulty getting a verification code:

See: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support

_____

if not: You can verify your account information to reset your password

If you finally succeed in signing in to iCloud:

How to Turn off Lost Mode

Use Lost Mode in Find Devices on iCloud.com - Apple Support

Eg: says:

Turn off Lost Mode on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Apple Watch

  1. In Find Devices on iCloud.com, select the device in the All Devices list on the left.
  2. Click Lost Mode, click Stop Lost Mode, then click Stop Lost Mode again.
  3. You can also turn off Lost Mode by entering your passcode on the device. If you turned on Stolen Device Protection on your iPhone, you may need to use Face ID or Touch ID.

Note: If you had any cards suspended when you put your device in Lost Mode (credit or debit cards for Apple Pay, student ID cards or Express Transit cards), when you turn off Lost Mode and sign back in to iCloud, you can use them again.

If you entered an unacceptable password too many times:

See what to do: If your Apple Account is locked, not active, or disabled - Apple Support

If all else fails: There is an Account Recovery process:

See: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support

All the best :-)
