I bought a used Iphone 12 in July of last year, and sometimes if i use it on safari too long or even games like block blast or roblox, the left side of the phone will get very hot. I am curious to why this is happening and if I can do anything to prevent this? Please help me!

If you don't see a thermometer on your screen with a warning the phone needs to cool off before you can use it again, it's not overheating. Using battery intensive apps like playing games or using Safari, make the battery work harder and when a battery works harder, it generates heat naturally.
Since you bought this phone used and iPhone 12 was released a few years ago, it would help to know what the Battery Health is at this time. Open Settings, go down to Battery and tap it. Then tap Battery Health. If it is near or below 80%, the useful life of the battery has been used and it would be time to pay Apple $89 to replace the battery in your phone.
