iPhone goes offline when connecting to CarPlay

For the past few weeks since the last update, everytime my iPhone is connected to CarPlay, the phone goes offline. I’ve tried forgetting the connection to the car, restarting both the phone and the car, nothing seems to get it back to how it used to work - I am connecting wirelessly , Bluetooth and WiFi are both on. It worked fine for a year until this last iPhone update!
