Wiping disc on 2006 iMac

I have an old Mac desktop circa 2006. I'm trying to wipe the disc before turning it over for recycling. Not sure how to do it. Can't find anything like "format disc" that I remember from Windows. I have gone into disc utility but it appears to only erase open or clear space. Any suggestions.

You can use the original 10.4 Snow Leopard Disc 1 that came with that iMac.

Or optionally, the (black) Leopard or the (white) Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD if you still have those.

If you do not have any of those Disc's or the iMac's SuperDrive is not working.

Then search the web for repair/upgrade guides and remove the iMac's internal drive.
