Installing new OS on 2017 iMac's 1 TB drive

I have just purchased a 2017 imac 27" i want to change the os to be able to run the software i have when i wipe it it comes up with 3 drives, 1 apple,1 update @27.69 gb and 1 update 1 tb, which one do i put the new os on

The three drives you see are most likely the 28GB SSD, the 1TB HDD, and the virtual Fusion Drive combining the two.


You want to install the new MacOS onto the Fusion Drive, which I think is the one showing up as "apple".


Alternatively you might consider purchasing an external USB-C SSD and installing MacOS onto that for better performance.
