High Sierra to Mojave upgrade installs not working

mid-2015 Retina 15" MBP macOS 10.13.3 High Sierra

- attempting macOS upgrade to Mojave 14.6.01 (Installer downloaded from App Store)

When running < Install macOS Mojave > Installer from Applications folder -

it times out, repeatedly for last 3 days, stating - "Recovery server could not be contacted"

When running Terminal to build USB "Bootable Installer/ Mojave"

- sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume

(replacing 'MyVolume' with "name of" fresh GUIDpartition/journaled USB 32GB)

as per https://support.apple.com/kb/HT201372) -

Terminal repeatedly concludes with -

" To use this tool, you must download the macOS installer application on a Mac with 10.12.5 or later, or El Capitan 10.11.6. For more information, please see the following: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT201372. "

referring back to the same ApplePage for creating bootable USB Installer -

while, as stated above, the Mojave 14.6.01 Installer is still sitting in the Applications folder.

Thank you for any assistance with this!

Oh, you mean the earliest? Not the latest 10.13.6??

That MBP can run upto the latest version of 12 Monterey.

Pre-Installed MacOS:X 10.10.3 (14D2134)Maximum MacOS:12.x (Monterey)

Does SWUpdate tell you you can't go any further?

I seem to recall that several of the 10.13 Security updates are required to install any OS higher, like 10.14

  • Mojave 14.6.01

Hmmm, should be 10.14.6

10.13.3 is the 'up to date' ceiling for this mbp

no vpn, antivirus, clean apps

Safe Mode boot results in same when launching Mojave Installer - "recovery server could not be contacted"

there's a Mr. Macintosh/ Youtube on the https issue with attempting a High Sierra Installer App

- which may be the same for Mojave, but there' nothing beyond that I could find
