How can I save my settings before upgrading my Apple Watch?

No store nearby, so I ordered from Apple, to be delivered tomorrow. Is there a step by step for saving settings and data, un-pairing the old watch, pairing new watch, restoring data?

Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Step 4 talks about restoring your old Apple Watch data to your new Apple Watch.

I used these instructions when I moved from a Series 4 to the new Series 10 a few months ago. All my stuff came over.

There is no separate way to back up the watch alone. The backup of the watch is included when you do a backup of your iPhone.

When you set up a watch it will ask you if you want to use a backup or as new. Backup will be on the last iPhone back up.

But I must say that there is not much info stored in a watch backup. Only the settings.

Your health and fitness data is all stored on your iPhone.

Wallet is not saved in a backup and credit/debit cards will need to be added back. All other cards/passes are taken from your iPhone wallet app.

When ever I set up a new phone I set it up as new and redo the few setting tweaks I want.

The only thing that I really loose is my watch faces. And for those I take a screen shot of before I do anything so that I know how they looked before moving on to a new setup.

Thanks again. Over two days we received two Series 10 watches, one from Apple; one from Amazon (might have bought both from Amazon for the 5% cash back using the Amazon/Chase Prime card, but Amazon didn't have color my wife wanted, so we paid a little more buying direct from Apple.com).

One fairly remarkable thing. Both watches and Apple Care + were bought on my account at Amazon and at Apple, respectively. Bought at Apple on my account for the Veteran discount. Nonetheless, by the time the watches were set up, they both show up on the correct Apple accounts, including the Apple Care +. I had frankly expected to have to call and get whose watch was whose, but didn't have to.

One more thing about upgrading from old to new watch. If you have two watches and iPhones, keep the watch and iPhone you're NOT using out of the room where you're working on the backup/unpair/pair process. We had a false start when my iPhone tried to pair with my wife's new watch (or my wife's iPhone tried to pair with my watch...I'm not sure. Anyway we started over with only the old watch 5 and new watch 10 plus the related iPhone in the room!

Thanks, Bob. I spent a while looking for backup as a standalone procedure. Still haven't found it, but I needed to unpair, and I see the backup is automatic. I'd still like to find a way to just back up the watch, but for now I'm at least ready to restore to the new watch--which won't be here until tomorrow, but I think I'll survive until then. 😁
