Haven't tried scanning in a couple of months using Image Capture on my MacBook Pro, but now I get this error message:
The wifi works and prints fine from the same printer.

Last time I had an issue with my Epson WF-3720, I just deleted and re-added it from System Settings "Printers & Scanners" pane.
While I generally like a good troubleshooting problem - I'm far less interested when commodity tools like printers or scanners are involved. Even less when its a multi-function machine and the printer works but the scanner doesn't - because the problem is certain to be obscure and delete/re-add an effective if blunt solution.
Okay, the printers are connected through wifi. I reloaded the drivers, and reset the dates on the printers, which I hadn't done before, and that seemed to fix it. For now anyway! No clue why that would work.

How is the Epson connected? USB? Wirelessly? That might help us work through this.
Even stranger is that Image Capture works scanning with my Epson Workforce 3640!
