Carplay with ios18.3 connects to car intermittently

After upgrading to iOS 18.2, I encountered wireless CarPlay issues. Yesterday, I upgraded to iOS 18.3, but the problem persists. The connection always drops. I have already reset both my iPhone's network and the car's infotainment system, but the issue remains unresolved. Any idea how to fix it? or Is it a known bug?

After trying all the other recommendations (reset network settings, restart phone, forget phone in car, forget car in phone, etc, this worked: https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/carplay-not-working-ios-18/

Basically just go into setting/screen play/applications and turn Carplay back on. So annoying that the update turned it off and this was a completely unintuitive fix. Thank you macobserver for your help - I never would have figured this one out.

I recently paired a different iPhone running iOS 18.3.1 to the wireless CarPlay system, which was previously paired to the car. After resetting the car system, it appeared that the previous pairing information was deleted from the infotainment system. This phone has no issues using wireless CarPlay.

After having this phone in the car system. When I tried to pair my problematic phone again, it seemed to work much better even through connection still dropped occasionally, not as frequently or randomly as before.

Additionally, I noticed an empty SSID saved in the Wi-Fi settings (Settings > WiFi > Edit) on the problematic phone. The "good" phone does not have this issue. Perhaps this empty SSID confusing the system.

Took the plunge and got Apple to wipe the phone and reload iOS. I also replaced my eSIM with a physical sim and now the CarPlay is working fine. I think the problem didn’t lie in the software I think it was the eSIM that was the issue as connectivity with CarPlay seemed to happen where the mobile signal was weak. The mobile carrier also said that eSIM can create issues with WiFi so I think that was the problem. Getting a physical sim was easy in store took 10mins and was free. Maybe worth a try.

I have the same problem. Connects via WiFi but keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. I’ve tried all the recommended solutions and settings, the cars software system has been reloaded and Apple support don’t seem to have an answer. CarPlay will work with a cable but when on WiFi not good. Discounted a Bluetooth issue as problem persists when Bluetooth disabled (after connecting to cars WiFi). There’s plenty of suggested remedies on the web but sadly none of them have fixed it. There seems to be plenty of people suffering from this so it must be a known issue but 18.3 didn’t fix it.

I’ve reset network settings, deleted my VPN, disconnected the dashcam from the app, switched off Bluetooth once connected to car, reset the phone, had the cars infotainment software reloaded. I don’t think there is much more to do other than get Apple to fix the issue glitch. I’ve had numerous emails with Apple support trying to sort it - the last I asked them to confirm if it was a known issue, it should be and when it will be fixed.

Tried everything mentioned including restarting phone, waiting several days to make sure the car has reset, enabling every Siri setting, disabling Siri and reenabling, getting CarPlay to forget the phone and then readding it, and telling the car to forget the Bluetooth connection. When CarPlay does function it shows audio as playing but no audio is actually coming out. When it does connect, it quickly disconnects - at one point the connection was flashing on and off continuously. Noticed that when the car does recognize Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth Audio does not disappear from the list of audio options like it used to - I wonder if there's some sort of conflict going on. Seems to be no solution. Disabled CarPlay and Siri permanently.
