If you could post the actual message that you saw, it might help to clarify things.


Within 30 days of the end date of your coverage, go to Settings > General > About. Then tap AppleCare+ Coverage Available.....if it appears.....and follow the onscreen instructions


Did you see an option to continue to extend your coverage? If not, then warranty coverage has expired on your iPhone and you will need to pay for any repairs that may be needed.
