Display Link Dock / Hub does not work after upgrading to OS 15.3

Afrer a day of lost work, I have found a solution to the following problem: When I upgraded my Macbook Pro to OS 15.3 I lost both external monitor connectivity.

After tooling around, I decided to have the Dock updated using a PC platform. As soon as the drivers were installed and the hub was reconnected to my Mac station, the screens are now operational and connected.

Hopefully, someone will find this fix helpful!

Otherwise, if Apple Tech is listening, there must be a fix for Mac users using Display Link devices.

I also shopped around for docks at Apple, and there are no Docks that support 2 x HDMI cables or more!

I had the same, on an M3 Macbook Air on a Dell D6000 hub.

I also found that the Screen Sharing options in System Settings were greyed out (not sure if they weren't before).

However, I downloaded the latest version of the Displaylink software from the Synaptics Website, 1.11.0 b28, quit the app, installed it, and opened the app again - and my Dell monitor was detected and worked OK. No need to plug the hub into a PC, reboot the MBA, or even log out.

This is a user-to-user forum. Apple largely is not here, except to moderate it – and if they were here, I believe they would point you to the company who sold you the DisplayLink-based device, and/or Synaptics, for support.

I haven't checked what Apple carries, but there are several Thunderbolt docks and hubs that will let you connect a couple of non-Thunderbolt displays or adapters, with resolutions of up to 4K @ 60 Hz, to a Mac that has hardware support for two or more external USB-C or Thunderbolt displays.

You might need adapters (e.g., if a Thunderbolt dock provided one HDMI output, and could provide a USB-C(DP) signal, you could pair it with a USB-C to HDMI adapter or adapter cable for the second display).

The key is that to attach two monitors to one Mac host port,

  • The Mac must support attaching multiple displays via USB-C or Thunderbolt.
  • The device attached directly to the Mac must be a Thunderbolt device (e.g., Thunderbolt dock or hub), even if it then splits up the signal for the benefit of ordinary non-Thunderbolt displays.
