Using Migration assistant with USB-C cable

connected new macbook air to existing macbook pro using usb-c cable and migration assistant is not seeing the connection. It is running off of wifi which will take hours. How do we get this to work with the direct cable connection?

Migration from 2015 iMac to MacBook M3 - How? Apple support indicates that it's possible to use a "cable" to make Migration faster, but there's no details. It does say something about "Ethernet," but the new MacBooks don't have an Ethernet port. I'm a long-time Apple fan and user, but is this feels like Gas-Lighting! Wi-Fi says it will take 52 hours. C'mon Apple! How will this work?

Migration assistant - Unable to connect My company has decided to upgrade my macbook from 2019 pro to 2024 pro. My colleagues were able to migrate theirs using the migration assistant, however when I try to migrate mine I get the error: Unableto Connect. Failed to connect to MacBook Pro 2019, please re-select this Source. I've tried with wifi and with usb c cable, but both have the same problem .Also I've tried turning off the firewalls on both devices, I've booted in safe mode.. everything I could find did not work. I saw that you can use external drive to migrate your mac, but currently I don't have one. Any ideas?

Try turning off the wi-fi. That should force it to look for the cable connection. Be sure to restart both devices after turning wi-fi off, and before attempting to start Migration Assistant.
