Email check Tabak vs Apple

I received a paper check from Huntington National Bank.

I got the same email on January 29th for $200. I have an account that I recently opened up at Chase Bank with absolutely no money in it. I did the deposit for the check this morning, it says it is pending, but it shows on my account. If the funds clear, I will post an update.

I received the same email except mine says that the funds will be deposited to by account by the end of the day on 1/31 and no further action is required on my part. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I chose electronic check when I put in for my payment. That’s what they sent. Still waiting to see if anyone else received the check from checkbook dot io and if it’s actually legit.

I also contacted apple support and they verified it is in fact legitimate!

I got the same email. I believe it’s legit since I’ve been receiving correspondence about this case for a long time. I’m just not ok with entering my info on checkbook dot io which I have never heard of.

Smart! I did the same with my credit union account that's been dormant with only the minimum $5 in it. I have seen it post yet but I believe now this is legit just an odd way of doing things. I believe they did it this way so some would refuse or question it as when the claim period is up guess who gets to keep whats left? The same lawyers that reaped 10's of millions in the case!

So I took this info to my bank and asked their opinion. They looked at the email, the email address, checkbook.io, the lawsuit, the phone number, and they believe the digital check is legitimate and fine to deposit.

I'll wait a couple of days before doing so, but they seem to think it's safe.

You weren’t required to give bank info. You could’ve selected electronic check or paper check along side ACH transfer (which did require bank info)

Of course it is a scam. If you were to click on the link you would likely be asked to confirm who you are by providing your name, bank account number, etc.

Never respond to nor provide any financial or personal information to such unsolicited emails.

Once you go to the bank link, you actually login to the bank account vida PLAID. Plaid is used by many financial institutions to link accounts for transactions. So you’re acct # etc are not directly linked to Checkbook.io.

Exactly. I opted for paper which is reflected in the copy I printed out. An email seems especially suspicious!

How much you receive depends on how many devices you owned that fell under the lawsuit.

And yes, it's entirely normal for these types of settlements to ask for your bank's routing number and your account number. That allows them to deposit your settlement electronically instead of the extra time and expense necessary to send you a paper check.

The bank info only allows them to deposit funds. It would require your PIN to withdraw anything.
