So my car was stranded at a gas station and I believe it got towed, but I can’t locate my AirTag on the app. Find my device or whatever it is called. Just wondering if anybody knows what to do to try to find my AirTag.

they show up under items rather then devices in the lower tabcontrol
but you need to understand how airtags work, they don't have any sort of gps, their own means of communication is bluetooth (some 30 meters)
but if an iphone with bluetooth enabled and internet access come within reach of one it will get the iphone to send it's location and the airtag_ID to apples servers and provide you with a fixture in that manner
if the toweyard or whatever is far away from iphones then your tag is dead in the water, until an iphone comes close.
