screenshots getting saved to files without me selecting save to files

Every so often I go into the Files app on my iPhone for something only to find a bunch of screenshots of websites in Firefox that I thought had only been saved to my camera roll, even ones I deleted from there. No, I am not selecting “save to files”. They are being automatically sent to my files. How do I turn this off?

On an iPhone, screenshots are automatically saved to the Photos app by default, making it easy for users to view and manage their images later. However, users can customize this behavior by choosing alternative options for saving screenshots. For instance, you can save a screenshot directly to the Files app, Quick Notes, or other locations via the Share sheet after capturing it.

In some cases, if the iPhone is managed through a Mobile Device Management (MDM) Corporate Profile, the behavior of screenshot saving may change. The MDM profile can dictate certain settings on the device, such as directing all screenshots to be automatically saved to iCloud Drive or other cloud storage services. This is typically done for security or organizational purposes, where screenshots are collected and stored in a central location for better management, backup, or compliance with company policies.

In the absence of an MDM profile, the default behavior will save screenshots to the Photos app unless manually redirected by the user to other locations.
