You need to have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.

So I finally took my iPhone 14 to the Apple Store where they replaced the camera/flashlight hardware unit And now everything looks normal again. It was free because my company pays insurance for my work phone.

Anyways, I tried to get them to admit that it was probably a driver/software type issue since the upgrades, but of course they would not admit it… So coincidentally my camera went out at the same time it was upgraded, lol.

I work with IT networking, and once in a while, new software upgrades no longer support older hardware…

If it was the update it would have caused the issue immediately. Updates are a gallon of milk that slowly goes sour. Software at its most basic level are just binary code (strings of ones and zeroes). It works or it doesn’t.

What you’ve experienced (more than likely) is a mechanical failure. Mechanical parts do gradually fade away (break) over time. If you not thrilled with the repair cost, I get it. But the reality is you either purchase insurance (Apple Care or third party) or you self insure.

When top of the line cellphones were $400+ I self insured. When Apple introduced iPhone X I started purchasing Apple Care. But at $1000+ new, I’m not playing the self insurance game. A few dollars a month makes it worthwhile for me for the peace of mind.

I have an iPhone 12 and my camera is also not working. Just a black screen and the advice given did not help. There was briefly a notification in the settings area about fixing a display issue but as soon as I clicked on it to fix the issue it disappeared. It seems like this is a problem a lot of iPhone users are experiencing with the 18.3 update. Will there be a fix or a new update coming soon?

I got this weird bug after installing iOS 18.3.1 on my iPhone 15 Pro. Back Camera (only) stuck on black screen, not working along with the flash. Nothing else changed and the phone never dropped nor have I ever changed any of its internal parts.

Unfortunately, I had my yearly family trip since then, which went without my being able to take photos. Not at all justified for a public x.3.1 release. It should be very stable now without such frustrating bugs.

Ever since I updated my iphone 13 pro max to ios 18.3.1 the camera works, but when I open the camera it is immediately zoomed in every setting. Such as 2x on photo, 3x on portrait mode , and 2x on video. The 0.5 option is there on some settings but when I try to zoom immediately goes back to the max zoom. I reset my phone but I still have this issue.

For a product that is like 2 years on the market, they shouldn’t be creating updates that make a module malfunction. My iPhone 15 ran 18.3.1 faultless for a long time, but only recently it had this camera issue. Updating it to 18.3.2 didn’t fix it. So it wasn’t caused immediately after the update (18.3.2 was already out). But still, it’s not a major upgrade. It isn’t going from iOS 17 to iOS 18. Minor updates should NOT have this effect.
