When someone calls, I do NOT see the green background with a phone logo - I have to fish out my phone to actually answer - I CAN hear the caller faintly but they cannot hear me until I have accessed my phone......could my watch be on MUTE ?

Your watch may be on do not disturb or silent mode or theater mode etc.
You can check this and other setting by pushing in the side button to bring up the control center.
